CommuniCare's speech language pathologists treat children and adults experiencing speech or language disorders, voice difficulties, swallowing difficulties, or who need access to alternative forms of communications.
We have vast experience assessing and treating acquired speech and language disorders experienced by children, as well as symptomatic disorders resulting from stroke, head injury, cancer or neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's. Our goal is to facilitate improvement of the speech language function.
CommuniCare provides services in the areas of articulation/phonology, voice and fluency. Intervention often includes family members and caregivers. We take time to answer the many questions you have.
Speech language pathology services are flexible to address individual needs.
- We assess current communication skill and swallowing abilities of children and adults
- We identify speech language pathology needs, provide treatment and consultation
- We prescribe appropriate devices for persons who have lost the ability to speak, such as electrolarynges, voice output devices, messaging devices and adapted computer hardware and software
- We consult with other members of the healthcare team if necessary
CommuniCare assists in the gain or regain of communication skill or to help clients learn to communicate in a different way to become an effective communicator again. In addition to treatment, we provide ongoing support and education as required by the individual, his or her family, caregivers and client care team.
CommuniCare welcomes self-referrals and referrals from physicians, insurance companies, private businesses, school boards, and Community Care Access Centres (CCAC).
